You may wonder why, but with only a bit of thought it becomes obvious that what draws businessmen and consumers to eBay everyday is the tremendous marketing potential involved. First, what is ebay and what makes it tick? ebay is all about the people who are involved in the thousands of transactions that go on daily. I want you to think. In a world with a global market, there is no way more obvious than an open ended auction format to draw in buyers and sellers the world over. Think about the immense range of people who utilize ebay everyday to make money, or to spend their hard earned income. They spend, and they spend a lot. But why? Because most people are convinced that they can either acquire better deals on Ebay than anywhere else, or they can acquire items via Ebay that simply are not available in their area.

Now that you understand why ebay has such an immense money making and business potential, I want you to think about how you can tap that potential so as to maximize your chances of making very profitable transactions on ebay yourself. Obviously, when you buy something it is typically because you either need it or want it, and where you buy it is decided by both convenience and price. Now, ebay supplies the convenience aspect, essentially connecting you and your products with the entire world of consumer. The question is, how do you offer things that everyone wants at a price that is better than most of the people out there who offer a similar product. There are a few techniques that can help you.

First of all, do you know an individual that makes a product that no one else can make? If so, you could make a deal with him to sell his product on ebay. You could buy a few of his items and sell them in a test run, and if it works you could be well on your way to business. Have you checked the classifieds? Sometimes your local classifieds will have amazing deals that are just waiting for a clever businessman like you to pick up and resale at an enormous profit. Maybe the local rag and tag doesn't appeal to you. So, maybe you need to start thinking "China."

That is correct, by utilizing manufacturers in China, and essentially anywhere else that has an economy that relies on the cheap manufacture of goods, you can easily and readily get your hands on any product you'd like at tremendously low prices. The only thing you have to keep in mind then are logistics. How will you manage to get your cheap products from China or wherever and get them sent to the people that buy from you on ebay? You can do this via a method known as drop shipping. In drop shipping, you never store any goods at all, you simply forward the delivery information of the consumer who has paid you for the product and the manufacturer sends directly to them! This saves you on a number of things, including storage and packaging logistics.

In any case, remember that making money on ebay is all about supply and demand. The demand is there, the question is do you have what it takes to get the proper supply, and reach the people who want what you have? Have fun, and good luck.

Now remember that all of this communication with our shoe-buyer, happened automatically; all you had to do was enter her e-mail address into your autoresponder list and the system took care of the rest, but now you have a relationship with that customer.

She is reminded of your store every week; she knows what’s happening there without visiting and she now has the opportunity to come in and get sale bargains before the crowds, and a discount on her favourite range. She feels important and cared about and that is a powerful feeling.

If a market researcher stopped her in the street, next week and asked her questions about local shoe stores, who do you think she’d mention? Who do you think she’d know the most about? Your store of course! This is truly powerful stuff, which is why I’m amazed so few businesses use it.

The power of the list

Over time, you will add more and more people to your list and they will continue to receive weekly or monthly or even daily communication from you; whatever is most appropriate to your business.

Imagine that now, you have 1,000 people on your list, in the case of a local business, or maybe 20,000 for a web business and believe me, these figures are small compared to some lists. Now you have the ability to turn sales on at will.

Remember that all those people have requested to receive your communications, so they are happy to see your e-mails in their inbox and will most likely read them with interest, for as long as you keep feeding them relevant information.

You know that next week there is a new range of ‘Fabulous’ shoes coming in and you want to sell as many pairs as possible. You write a special, one-off e-mail, not part of the ongoing pre-written sequence and you send it to your list as a broadcast, which is a facility provided by all the autoresponder providers I mentioned.

Now, because you are mailing to an eager, ‘opt-in’ list of people who already like and trust you – your conversion rate will massively outstrip what you might expect from a standard blind mailing. Twenty, thirty even sixty percent conversion rates are not unheard of when the right offer is sent to a well tended list.

So you can see that taking just a little time to gather the tiniest bit of information from a prospect can pay enormous dividends by driving customers directly to purchase. The combination of a strong list and a well planned autoresponder sequence is marketing gold these days. So what’s stopping you?

Welcome back to Part 2 of my introduction to autoresponders; one of the most powerful tools yet invented for web marketing

An autoresponder is a piece of software that sends out a pre-written e-mail or series of e-mails, automatically on request. It is usually triggered by someone sending an e-mail to a specific address, or more commonly, by entering their e-mail address into a form on a website.

That software can either sit on your computer and you administer it your self, or it can sit on your web hosting servers and be run by your ISP or, most commonly, it’s a web based service run by a specialist provider, who you pay a monthly subscription to.

The last method is by far the easiest to setup and manage. You will find my recommendations for the best providers on the Links page of my website. Both of my favourites offer a truly comprehensive service from basic autoresponders, through sophisticated list management, to ad tracking and broadcast capabilities (more on that later) and will give you full control of your campaigns for very reasonable monthly fees.

You can set up multiple campaigns; decide the exact sequence that e-mails go out, control which days they are sent and also give your customers have the full ability to unsubscribe at any time they choose – very important if you don’t want to be accused of ‘spamming’.

How to use them

The key to successfully using an autoresponder is to try not to think of it only as an advertising medium, although, of course it is; but more as an information channel.

People put a high value on useful information; that’s why they go to the web in the first place, so if you can give them information that is completely relevant to their search, then they’ll lap it up for as long as you can hand it out.

Here’s an example – let’s say you are running that shoe store we mentioned in the first article. A customer comes to your website, or into your store and doesn’t buy first time. However, she likes what she sees, so you give her the chance to be put on your list to receive special offers or news about new lines. She thinks that sounds cool and gives you her e-mail address and in return she gets a free gift of an elegant shoe-horn, maybe.

The same day she receives a friendly e-mail from you saying, “Thanks, it was nice to meet you, did you know we’re open late on Thursdays and that privilege customers get invites to special previews of new lines and early admission to the sales?”

A week later, she gets another e-mail telling her what is so special about the ‘Fabulous.Range’, which is your most expensive line. The e-mail explains how well these shoes are made, how comfortable they are and that there’s a new line every spring and fall.

Now you are beginning to plant seeds. She now knows that you are the leading local stockist for ‘Fabulous’ shoes, and now your store has a bigger place in her mind than your competitor’s.

The next week she gets an e-mail reminding her that you always have the full range of ‘ Fabulous’ shoes in all the colours and all the sizes, even halves and you include a discount coupon she can print out at home and bring with her to the store, so that she gets a 10% discount on her next purchase.

Whenever I talk to entrepreneurs who are trying to market their businesses, I am often amazed by how few people use the incredible power of e-mail marketing. Many of them tell me, “Oh my business isn’t suitable for that”, or “Yes, I’ve heard of autoresponders but I don’t really know what they do.”

There seems to be a lot of confusing information around and many businesses, which could be benefiting, just don’t know how to take advantage of one of the most powerful marketing methods ever seen.

So I decided it was time to explain exactly what autoresponders are, how they work and just what they can offer to any business, whether online or offline.

Basics

Firstly, when people come to your website or walk into your store, they don’t always buy first time. Maybe they didn’t have enough money today, or they were in a hurry, or they need to think about it, or they want to shop around first. All you know is they came and they left and they didn’t buy.

Wouldn’t you rather have the chance to maybe ask them why, or offer them a special, or tell them about a product they might not have seen on their first visit? Do you think that might encourage them to come back at a later date?

Secondly, people like receiving communications and that includes your prospects and customers. Rather, I should say, people like receiving communications that they have requested to receive.

You will often hear the term “Opt-in” – this means that someone, a customer or a prospect has opted-in to be on a list and has agreed that you can send him information until he or she says “enough”. This is the exact same principle that direct mail has worked on for most of the last century.

People ‘opt-in’ because they have seen something on your website or in your store that they liked the look of and they said “I want to find out some more, here’s my address so you can send it to me”.

Thirdly, it doesn’t matter what sort of business you’re in; whether you sell e-books on line, or shoes on the high street; whether you offer business consultancy services via your website, or advertise gardening services in your local paper – if a prospective customer says “I’m interested, tell me more” then sending them an e-mail, is the quickest, cheapest, least time consuming way to answer their queries and engage with them.

But let’s take it one step further; imagine if you could automate that to the extent that you didn’t have to personally send out the e-mail and that no matter what time of day, night or weekend, the enquiry came in, your customers could get the information immediately, without you lifting a finger. That is what an autoresponder is designed to do.

I've had the pleasure recently of getting involved with Squidoo, which is a Web 2.0 site that allows you to create small web pages packed with brief information about your sites, products, and services. If you are looking for ways to make money online, you might want to start with Squidoo.

The reason I suggest starting there is that if you visit Squidoo's website, you can do a free search for various topics – anything under the sun – and find short web pages with brief overviews of what you are looking for, and do this all for free.

It is like a mini search engine really where you can find information on the latest and greatest celebrity news, or new ways to make money online. You can even find information about future events, launches, and promotions. If you can't find what you're looking for, you can always start your own lens on the topic that interests you.

What is a lens you ask? When you look through a microscope, you get a magnified image of a mass of cells for example. When you look at a lens on Squidoo, you are looking at a magnified image of someone's topic, all concentrated together in a single web page.

It's free and incredibly easy to set up a lens on Squidoo. You don't have to know any HTML – they do it all for you, and your lens can be set up within minutes, after which you will quickly discover how easy it is to get traffic via Squidoo.

If you are searching for ways to make money online, you can do it with Squidoo. Not only can you search for information you want, but you can create a lens and promote your own products and services – either your own products or someone else's through affiliate links. If you already have a website, you can link your lens to your website for additional traffic.

There are a few ways to make money online with Squidoo. Not only can you promote your own or other people's products, but you basically get your own site setup by Squidoo that already comes with Google Adsense ads on it. You don't need to do anything other than take a few minutes to create a lens, and you could be earning extra money through Adsense!

Another way to make money online with Squidoo is to use the "modules" they provide you when you set up your lens. At a first glance you may not understand how the system works. You are free to delete modules they provide, such as their eBay module, and their Amazon.com module. Why would you want those?

I wondered the same thing, until I found out that you can carefully choose keywords for your Squidoo lens, type them into the eBay module they provide, and see what products come up for auction at eBay. Once you've done that, Squidoo kindly updates your eBay auction list every 6 hours, and you have the opportunity to make money online if anyone clicks those eBay links that are linked to your lens!

It's not a greedy system either. You have the option of donating all, or portions of what you make by people clicking the ready-made links on your Squidoo lens to charity! There is a growing list of charities to which the money can be donated too, so this is a fabulous system for giving something back.

Heck, you can even decide not to donate to charity and pocket the cash yourself through your PayPal account for additional extra income in your pocket!

With Squidoo, it's easy to rise in the search engine ranks, particularly Google. If you create a lens and share it with others, and get your friends or other Squidoo group members to add your lens to their favourites list, and rank your lens, you will achieve a high lens rank quickly. The higher the rank, the more potential there is to make money online because others will find your lens quicker.

As you can see, Squidoo offers ways to make money online by providing an almost ready-made portal to promote your products and services, to promote other people's products and services, to share information, rise in the ranks, and make money from Adsense and online auctions. You can't beat this method, especially because it's free!

My experience with forums has been quite a learning experience. Do not confuse spamming with posting. Spamming will only alert forum members of your intentions and your credibility will suffer.

Contribute to a thread by offering assistance, a solution to a problem, or by asking a question yourself. You will build credibility and become welcomed into the community.

Create a Viral Marketing Strategy to Drive Traffic to Your Website

Viral marketing can best be described as a marketing campaign that permits you to reach a large number of people quickly online, much in the same way a human cold virus might spread throughout an office complex. The online equivalent of word-of-mouth marketing, viral marketing permits people to pass along marketing material to friends, customers, and colleagues so that the marketing campaign catches on and spreads like wildfire. Because many online distribution channels are free or low cost, viral marketing is possibly the most cost-effective Internet marketing technique out there. Once you've launched your viral marketing campaign, it has the capability grow and spread automatically for years.

With a well-thought out and implemented viral marketing campaign, you can:

--increase targeted traffic to your site

--build brand recognition

Two of the most common viral marketing strategies I've seen implemented are viral movies and viral ebooks. The key to success in picking your product is to make sure that it solves a big problem experienced by your target market. You may also locate your giveaway by using something that someone else has created that permits you to brand it with your company information. (Get an example below in the author's resource box).

2. Brand the product. Make sure that your logo, your website URL, and/or your tagline is on the viral marketing piece. You want anyone who downloads this viral marketing product to be able to link back to your website, just as you would want someone to be able to contact your brick-and-mortal store when you provide a promotional giveaway like a pen, coffee cup, mousepad, etc.

3. Set up delivery process. Will visitors be able to download the software directly from your site, or will they have to provide their contact information? The best option is to give it away with no strings attached. However, on the page in which you offer the download, you can offer visitors yet another gift, one that requires their contact info to receive.

4. Give away the rights. If you'd like to really jump start the viral marketing process, give people the rights to give away your viral marketing piece to their own customers.

5. Rebrand the item. If you permit people to rebrand the giveaway with some of their contact info or affiliate links, as well, they will really be motivated to pass along your viral marketing piece.

6. Announce the availability of the item. Write an article or a press release about your viral marketing item. Announce its availability to your contact database or ezine list. Ask your readers or visitors to your blog to announce it to their lists or just simply give it away.

Capturing the power of viral marketing is a simple and cost-effective strategy to drive traffic to your website. If implemented properly, who knows how much fame and fortune this technique could bring you?

In this article, we're going to go through a basic keyword research strategy. If you're new to the internet and just about to set up your own web site, this strategy is for you.

# What are keywords?

Keywords are simply words or, more often, phrases that you would like your web pages to be found with, in search engines. If you had a web site about babies, for example, you would want your web pages to appear when someone searches for "baby names" or "baby furniture" etc. You wouldn't want your web pages to appear in search results for the keywords "fishing rod" or "hunting guide" because a person doing that search will not be interested in your site.

# Finding keywords

The first step in your keyword research strategy is to find keywords that are relevant to your web site theme. A good place to start is to just brainstorm of words that you yourself might use to find your web pages. A big mistake that newcomers make is to stop at that. You may be quite surprised that the keyword that you think will be used by others may not be used by them at all.

Fortunately, there are keyword research tools out there that you can use to help you find out what terms are being searched for. One tool you could use is Good Keywords, which is a free keyword generator software that you can use to do a quick keyword research for your terms and their demand (i.e. how many times they're been searched for in a month). Typing in the word "baby" in Good Keywords brings up the following results (first 10 only):

# Choosing keywords

The second step in your keyword research strategy is to choose "good keywords". As you can see, the "baby" theme is quite popular. Should you use all terms as your keywords? You could if you wanted to. Depending on the number of competitors you have (i.e. other webmasters who are targeting your chosen keyword), you'd more likely be better off focusing on a tighter theme. A quick search for the word "baby" on Google, comes up with 1,000,000,000 results. With so many competitors what are your chances of ranking in the Top 10? You could focus your entire site on just "baby shower", for example.

To have a better idea of which keywords to choose, you could use a keyword research tool like WordTracker (http://www.wordtracker.com). WordTracker provides information on how many times your keyword phrase is being searched for in a day, the number of competitors and something else called KEI (Keyword Effectiveness Index). All else being equal, the higher the KEI, the better.

WordTracker has a trial account you can experiment with but it brings back just 30 results, which is a good start to helping you focus on a niche. Typing in "baby shower" in WordTracker brings back the following top 5 KEI results for the following keywords:

152.264, baby shower footprint invitation
73.085, free printable baby shower games
61.711, free baby shower games
52.127, baby shower games
37.829, free printable baby shower invitations

According to WordTracker keyword research, KEI above 15 is a good keyword.

# Using keywords

Once you've chosen a set of "good keywords", you next step in your keyword research strategy is to actually use the keywords. You should start off your site by creating web pages with content optimized for the high KEI keywords. How do you do this exactly?

- Focus one keyword phrase per web page
- Use the keyword phrase in your web page Title Tag
- Use it in your keywords meta tag
- Use it in your description meta tag
- Have it appear in the first 250 words of your content
- Strive for 5-7% keyword density (5-7 keywords and/or keyword phrases per 100 words of text).
-Use your keyword phrase in your H1 tag.
-Use keywords and/or keyword phrases in your image ALT tags.
- Use it as the text to any outgoing links on the page.
- Have the keyword appear once at the end of your content.

There's a lot more to keyword research then I have time to explain in this article. But this basic keyword research strategy should be enough to get you started in the right direction.

So what are Forums, well in the broadest sense they are sites where groups of like minded people visit to discuss points of interest or to find out information and learn about a subject that they are interested in.

For the purpose of this article we are looking at what part Forums have to play in the Internet Marketing community.

So why would anyone visit a Forum in this arena and what could they possibly gain?

There are likely to be four main reasons for visiting a forum site.

Firstly, someone may visit because they are seeking advice or guidance over a product they are considering purchasing, or they could be looking at an affiliate product to promote and see if others have had experience at marketing this, and so on.

Secondly, from a marketers point of view this can be a breeding ground for new product ideas. A forum can be full of people who are experiencing difficulties and are crying out for product solutions.

Thirdly, dependant on where you are with your on-line business and experience, you may find yourself isolated. The forum allows you to make contact with other individuals and possibly develop working relationships which lead to the potential for JV (Joint Ventures) partners.

Fourthly, and the purpose of this particular article is the use of Forums in marketing your site.

So what do you need to do, you need to determine what sort of problems are forum visitors encountering, can we find a common theme. If so, can you come up with the solutions to these problems.

It is possible that you may have a product solution readily available, in which case you can provide links to visit your site. Remember you are not only promoting your own site, but also yourself, you want to be seen as the figure of authority in their area of concern.

The response you provide in the Forum needs to be compelling and provide evidence that clicking on your link will take them to the next step in finding the solution to the problem that they are experiencing.

In the absence of having a ready made solution, is there any constant or general themes to be found in the Forum postings. A quick definition of social bookmarking ...It is a website where you can post your favorites and access them from any computer with an Internet connection. It is also a way to drive traffic to your website or blog.

Another use of social bookmarking is for research. You can go to del.icio.us and enter a search tag and find the sites that other people have tagged for that term. This way you are tapping into the research that many others have done before you.

This article will concentrate on using social bookmarking to drive traffic to websites.

We previously used the term "tag". Just what is that? A tag is the word or term that you would use to search for the topic on a search engine. On most of the bookmarking sites, it is a single word separated by spaces. This makes it difficult for the search terms that are multiple words.

It seems there are several ways that people are creating multiple word tags. Some are just running the words together "retirementjobs". Some are using hyphens between words "retirement-jobs. And some are using periods between words "retirement.jobs".

Experiment with this and see what works best for you. Just remember to try these different combinations when you are searching tags.

There are many social bookmarking sites (I read the number of approximately 75 during my research) with del.icio.us being the "gold standard". If you want to create traffic to your site, you should post your web pages on each one of them...I thought that might slow you down. You say to yourself - "Self doesn't have time to post to all of those sites".

Well, enter technology to save the day. A site has been created named www.onlywire.com that helps automate this task. It will distribute your post to 13 bookmarking sites. It actually lists 16 sites, but Maple is being closed down and Jots and Linkroll would not accept registration.

In order to use Onlywire, you must go to each bookmarking site and register with a user name and password. Once you have registered in all the sites on which you want to post, go to Onlywire and enter the user name and password in the input box for the particular bookmarking site.

Next, to make it easy to tag a page, Onlywire has a link tool that you can drag to your link tool bar on your browser. When you are on a page and want to send it to all your bookmarking sites, click on the icon for the Onlywire link. You will be asked for your Onlywire user name and password. The Onlywire page will open with your desired page URL in the input box. You add the tags that you want for the page, enter a comment if desired, and click the enter button. At the speed of the Internet, your page has been bookmarked on as many sites as you have listed in Onlywire.

Just consider the implications of this. Each time you add a page to your site, you post it on Onlywire. Onlywire sends it to the thirteen bookmarking sites and thirteen more links to the page (and to the website) appear on the Internet. You know that the search engines use links to a website as a factor in ranking it. This is a great multiplier to do this.

The other implication is that people actively use the bookmarking sites to find information. This will create traffic to your site.

When I discovered Onlywire, I set up an account and listed the bookmarking sites on it. I then entered every web page in retirement-jobs-online.com (RJO) as a favorite. Within a day, I started to see hits on the RJO website from some of the social bookmarking sites so it works quickly for driving traffic. The increase in the search engine ranking will take time.

Some might say that this borders on SPAM, but consider that some people have a favorite bookmarking site and only use that site. You want to make certain that your information is available to them and posting to multiple bookmarking sites is the way to do this.

How To Build Profitable Mini Sites To Sell eBooks, Software, or Physical Goods

Mini sites are highly powerful sales tools to promote and sell products be it digital like ebooks and software or physical goods like hardcover books. Mini sites are usually comprised of 5-10 pages and its main purpose is to make a sale. As compared with a content site which can consist of hundreds or even thousands of pages, mini sites don't need that many pages because otherwise that would deter its primary objective which is to get a sale.

When building a mini site, there are some fundamental factors you need to consider in order to make it profitable. I am not talking about crafting a powerful sales letter here which of course is important but I am focusing on the design aspect. How you build your mini site can have an effect on your sales. Visitors to your website are in a hurry and it's up to you to control where you want to lead them on your website. You can easily lose a visitor simply by directing them to another site or page or you can make them stay on your site longer hence increasing your chances in making a sale.

But how can you make them stay longer and not losing them too early? The answer is in your navigation menu. Don't forget that you have other pages on your website that can contain some content here and there and people are usually distracted by links. Your goal is to make them as undistracted as far as possible and convincing them to read your sales page ultimately leading to the order page. You have different ways to place your navigation menu on your website. You can place it at the top, at the bottom, on the left or on the right.

For me, I've seen that it's better to put the navigation menu at the bottom because this is the last thing that your website visitors will see. They might have already clicked on the order button, hence not seeing your menu. The purpose of this method is not to hide your menu because it's visible but rather to focus on the sale instead of encouraging people to click on your links and pages.

Another crucial aspect in building a profitable mini site is to go overboard with the usual number of pages which is 5-10. I've discovered that by adding more pages and content in the form of useful articles more or less related to the topic of your site, you build a more valuable site which has more chances to even get repeat visitors and at the same time getting more value in the search engines, hence better rankings. Search engines love content and if you can provide them with that, you will be duly rewarded.

Do you think you can build a mini site with 30-50 pages? Why not. Here I will rather call it a super mini site which has the characteristics of a mini site and that of a content site but whose main purpose is still the same ie to make the sale. Of course, you might lose some visitors to your other pages and probably some external links but think about the other rewards like repeat visitors and search engine traffic.

Sure, you can build a simple mini site with as less pages as possible in order not to distract your visitors but it depends on your methods of generating traffic. If you are building this type of mini site, you will probably focus on pay per click advertising because such a site will unlikely get good rankings in the search engines. Usually, it's recommended to drive pay per click traffic to a landing page like a small mini site because you don't want to lose that visitor quickly due to the fact that you are paying. Otherwise if you want to get some search engine traffic and probably some repeat visitors, you might want to focus on a super mini site.

Mini sites are responsible for selling thousands of dollars of products because they work. And depending on the way you generate traffic, you might want to think well before you design your mini site because it can have a positive or negative effect on your efforts. For example, it can have a negative effect if you consider building a small mini site and hoping to get search engine traffic or on the other hand, a super mini site and planning to generate pay per click traffic to it.

Will you read a sales letter 147 pages long?

Would you mail your customers a sales letter that makes them page through 124 case studies before you describe what you’re selling?

Will you read a sales letter that contains 56,938 words, enough to fill a 253-page paperback book?

Some online marketers think you will. I’m talking about the ones who write what they call “long-copy online sales letters.” These websites usually contain just one page. There is no navigation scheme except the page down button on your keyboard. You are expected to start at the top and keep reading and keep scrolling until you surrender by placing your order.

I hate these sales letters with a passion. For one thing, they are not sales letters at all. “Online sales letter’ is an oxymoron. “One-page” online sales letter is another oxymoron. There are no pages online. If your pitch is online it’s not a letter. It’s a screen with words and pictures on it.

And there’s the difference. The web is an interactive medium. A letter is not. You read a sales letter. You interact with a website.

The whole beauty of the web is that you are not constrained to present your pitch in a linear fashion from page 1 to the postscript. Just compare the Land’s End print catalog with www.landsend.com. Online, everything is a few clicks away. Only online can you search for shirts by gender, size, price, style and type of collar opening.

You can’t do that with their print catalog. Print is linear. Which is why a 56,938-word, 147-page “sales letter” is so ridiculous. Online shoppers aren’t linear. They don’t want to read from top to bottom. They don’t want to scroll through 124 case studies to find your guarantee.

Online shoppers want to navigate to the pages that interest them. They want to easily find information about gift cards, weekly specials, your return policy and plenty more.

Your goal as a direct marketer with a website is to help your visitors find what they want quickly. And make buying easy. So don’t give your sales pitch on one page. And don’t put over 400 exclamation marks in one letter either, OK?

First Things First: Does it Work?

Within a day of buying Holly’s book, I tried just a couple of things in those first 2 chapters and in less than 30 minutes of my time, I made back the money I spent. It took about 24 hours from action to income, but it was so easy…it’s kind of like I got her ebook for free.

Would I Tell My Mother to Buy It?

No. Like many people who want to “work from home” my mother has no idea of how to be an Internet marketer and wouldn’t even know what an Internet forum is, let alone where to find one. This book is for someone who isn’t looking for a work from home “job” and someone a little savvier than to pursue online surveys as a means of income. (not that my Mom would, but…you get the idea)

Is Holly Mann’s Book For The Yet-To-Be-Successful Online Marketer?

I give this book a THUMBS UP for someone who at least somewhat familiar with working online and navigating the web. Although it would not be my “first” recommendation for a total Internet newbie, Holly does start off her book as if speaking to someone is IS new to the web. She takes just enough time to define terms like “affiliate program” and “page rank” and “backlinks” without putting the more advanced reader to sleep. She gives the reader two full chapters of tips for making money online immediately without even having a website. All of the information is basic but not boring, practical and easy to implement. She gives the reader plenty of direction for making money online without spending money starting immediately, and for this, I give roaring applause.

What’s Lacking for This Audience?

On a couple of occasions, the book will give a tool or a tip in a later chapter that may be a better option than those listed in a previous chapter. As an example, Chapter 3 talks about website design and getting a website for free or cheap, but much later in the book Holly gives reference to another (good) free template resource. This is probably just an issue of editing, but it does occur in a few places and someone who is likely to”read, implement, read, implement” may be disappointed later to find a better resource than one they have already chosen. On this note, I suggest taking the time to read through the entire book and highlight items for later reference.

The other disappointment is that “some” tools suggested are too expensive for someone just getting started. For the most part, this book will give several options free or very inexpensive resources for the user, but on a couple of items Mann is so passionate about the effectiveness of the tool she is recommending that no alternative is offered.

Is this Book For The More Experienced Marketer?

Absolutely, THUMBS UP. Even someone who has been online for a while should pick up some hints and tips from Holly that they may not have known. The book definitely goes beyond the newbie in it’s Internet marketing strategies, and unlike so many other books available, you will find it refreshingly free of “sharkiness”.

Anything Else Wrong With this Book?

The final chapters on Drop Shipping and Ebay advertising are more like “tips” than chapters, although the pointers are great. If dropshipping is your goal, buy Holly’s book for Internet Marketing and seek other resources for learning how to manage your dropship business. Other than that? It would be great if there were page numbers. The book is well-organized into chapters and nice table of contents, but lacks page numbers. This is uncommon in ebooks, I know, but they sure save time!!

Overall …. I say go out and get it!!! It will be well worth your tiny investment, especially if you use it and get your money right back like I did.

They state in the first few pages that this program will not make you rich, but it will provide you with the knowledge and tools to become successful using adwords if you are willing to work hard. There is a brief introduction to Pay per click advertising and Affiliate marketing.

Beating Adwords Section 2: Getting Started

Most everyone that has a computer has used Google. The reasons to use Google are given. Google Adwords is the number one place to advertise on the internet. Kyle and Carson teach you how to set up an Adwords account the right way. Actual screen shots with step by step instructions are provided to make things really easy. This is very helpful for beginners.

Next, the authors have you set up a Google account for practice. This will get you familiar with Google Adwords and your account will be ready to go. It is nice having the actual screen shots with detailed instructions to follow.

Beating Adwords Section 3: Affiliate Programs

Affiliate programs are recommended with links to sign up for free, and a list of high paying affiliates is also provided. Carson and Klye tell you which affiliate programs to avoid. Three Methods of determining which products to promote are included. There is a formula that helps you determine if a product is worth promoting. Few programs mention this simple formula that will help you pick the best products. There is an example of how to pick profitable adwords. Links to the best free keyword research tools are listed.

Beating Adwords Section 4: Advertise your Product

More screen shots are provided to help you set up an actual account. There is advice on how to target clicks and eliminate unwanted traffic. This is a great tip that will cut your advertising costs. Next, Kyle and Carson give you advice on how to achieve maximum traffic.

The number of keywords to use in your campaign is provided. The authors explain a common mistake made by most people using adwords and how to prevent it. They also tell you how to improve your click-through ratio.

Next, Kyle and Carson explain how to improve your quality score with Google which will get you ranked higher than your competitors for less money. This will improve your return on investment. Examples of successful ads phases are given. The wow factor and call to action are explained. The authors tell you how to eliminate non buyers. These are people just looking for information but are not interested in buying.

Beating Adwords Section 5: Outsmart your competition

The elements of Google's quality score are explained: 1) Click-through ratio, 2) ad content, 3) ad grouping, 4) ad history, 5) landing page content.

Kyle and Carson explain the importance of initially setting up quality ad groups. Landing page relevance is explained in detail. Tips are included to improve your landing page and the importance of getting your ad in the right position.

How to use the Traffic Estimator. A screen shot of the Traffic Estimator is displayed. The authors teach you how to get the most traffic for the least cost. A rule of thumb for internet marketers and a break even formula are included.

Inactive keywords that require small bids with a high quality score are explained. Your daily optimal budget is discussed. The authors teach you how to compete with the big boys. Kyle and Carson explain how to run test ads. The benefits of a landing page and direct linking are mentioned.

Beating Adwords Section 7: Web Pages that Sell

Tips on creating web pages and targeted content are provided. There are several tips on writing effective reviews to increase affiliate sales. Sample review pages are also included.

Beating Adwords Section 8: Success Staying Focused

The authors, Kyle and Carson, give you some basic tips that they followed for success. Kyle and Carson do respond to emails. They have answered all of my questions.

Bonus: Low cost advertising Techniques

This is a nice bonus. This section teaches you how to make money online for a small cost or free. Since I am trying to keep advertising costs as low as possible, I have used some of the techniques in this chapter, and they have worked very well for me. A glossary is included at the end.

Beating Adwords Section: Summary

I think Beating Adwords is an excellent program. It does cost some money to get started with adwords. Fortunately, Beating Adwords has several tips to keep control of your advertising costs. Also, if you are looking for ideas to keep your advertising costs as low as possible, the bonus section will be very helpful. Several low cost and free advertising techniques are included. As I mentioned, they have worked very well for me. If you want to get started making money online, this program will definitely guide you in the right direction. I highly recommend Beating Adwords.

Before I tell you about this wannabe "Day Job Killer" (which is an ebook by the way), let me take you back to the internet marketing scene last April.

Back then a single Adwords campaign was launched, one that would eventually lead 24 "failing" affiliates down the path to financial freedom - and result in me writing this article to you today. Back then, a guide was released called Adwords Miracle. It launched with no hype, just a single Adwords campaign. Even that one was a day job killer for me.

In the back of my mind as I was slowly reading Chris McNeeney's sequel to his popular 'Affiliate Project X' ebook, I kept thinking this is just too mean. I would never use some of the tactics described in 'Day Job Killer'. No way boss.

It is too ruthless, too heartless and much too clever for someone like me!

First, it should be explained this ebook is a short, cut to the bone sampling of some of the affiliate marketing techniques for using PPC advertising programs such as Google Adwords to sell affiliate products. Although these marketing tactics can just as easily be applied to selling your own products.

The writing is crisp and to the point. No fluff, no filler, just step-by-step information on what you should do to turn a profit in your Pay Per Click advertising.

Second, this is not a book for beginners, you have to know the lingo and be somewhat familiar with online affiliate marketing to enjoy the full benefits. Although a complete novice could take many of the points listed here and use them, this ebook was written for those who know their CTR from their CPC. If you're already scratching your head this book is not for you. Instead, it is for someone who wants advanced marketing techniques which does require some marketing savvy to pull off.

Third, many of the marketing techniques in this book are ruthless and may not be everyone's cup of tea. It can be downright brutal, for example, there's something called CAMPAIGN NUKING -- where you go in and steal an Adwords campaign from another marketer and use this book's techniques to underbid them and basically nuke their advertising campaign.

Another technique called the 'The Leveller' where you ambush a marketing guru and take his customers right from under his nose. Ingenuous ways of making sure you get the affiliate click and sales instead of the big name guru or vendor.

Personally I have been an affiliate marketer for over 5 or 6 years now and making a good full time living at it. My marketing model is slightly different since I use organic search to target my keywords; therefore the majority of my traffic and customers are supplied free. Even so, I found many helpful hints on how to improve my own online marketing.

You must also realize, building a content/organic marketing system takes months (more likely years) to create a profitable return. Using PPC programs like Google Adwords or Yahoo! Search Marketing is a totally different ball game and the returns can be almost instantaneous.

You join an affiliate program such as ClickBank, Commission Junction, Amazon... pick a product, create an ad, find targeted keywords and then start a PPC campaign... in a matter of hours you can be in business promoting and selling your affiliate products online.

The Catch?

There is always a catch, otherwise everyone would be quitting their day job and working on the net. No boss, no daily drive, no nosy workmates, no measly wages, no 9to5 daily grind... instead you would be working at home or wherever in the world you would love to be, you would be your own boss and most importantly you would have plenty of money to burn.

So what's the catch?

You really have to know what you're doing or you will lose money. PPC means you have to pay for each click/visitor to your site or affiliate link... bid too high or make no sales and you can lose your money faster than you can say 'Quit your day job!'

However, there are those who have perfected the PPC system and are making large sums of yearly income. The authors (Chris & Ken) of this book are supposedly bringing in over 7 figures a year from their affiliate marketing.

After reading this book and examining the techniques described, there's no reason to doubt that figure. Although I would liked to have seen the flip side of all those ClickBank earning graphs, i.e. how much advertising revenue was actually spent to generate those kind of sales? But I also have been marketing long enough to realize if you know exactly what you're doing, you can make a lot of money quickly with online affiliate marketing.

The reason large sums of money can be made is because you can scale up and duplicate any profitable campaigns. Computers and automation can make handling thousands of keywords/campaigns possible and easy. Once you have figured out a profitable keyword/product/campaign just do as the book suggests -- rinse and repeat.

Anyone can take the techniques in this book and use to them to increase their affiliate earnings. As an Amazon affiliate, I really appreciated the points discussed and as an affiliate marketer in general, there was a lot of useful information I can use to increase my earnings.

Keep in mind, once you have a successful site and getting plenty of targeted traffic, sometimes it is only a matter of picking the right affiliate product or changing just some simple words in your ads or on your site to greatly increase your conversions.

Anyone can take the marketing techniques described and set up their own online income source with the possibility of finally killing that day job.

But remember there is a large learning curve and it will depend (like everything in life) on your own inventive skills and personal resources. You have to be creative, manipulative, savvy and sometimes downright heartless to succeed. The more ruthless and merciless you are, the better your chances.

As mentioned before, this ebook is probably not for you. Then again, I have always been a bad judge of a person's character!
